Stable performance in urban while still slowdown in rural

Vietnam recorded a GDP growth rate of 5.46% in quarter 1, weaker than the same period last year, which marks an uncertain start to reach full year target of 6.5%.

FMCG growth recorded a stable performance in urban while still slowdown in rural versus a year ago.
Urban market is also stable in short term while rural sees a negative performance for the first time in the past 3 years due to volume consumption decline.
FMCG Growth by Sector
Beverages and Dairy are key drivers for the urban growth while rural declines volume consumption across sectors, especially in Personal Care and Home Care.
Retail Landscape
Urban growth is thanks to street shops (specifically provision stores in urban, mom and pop in rural) and emerging channels like specialty stores, mini stores. Meanwhile, wet market is losing its importance in rural areas.
