FMCG Monitor: FY 2020
Kantar's FMCG Monitor presents an overview on the Philippine economic situation and a deep dive on how the Philippine FMCG landscape is performing in the recent quarter. The report includes a snapshot of FMCG performance across key regions, SECs, channels and retailers in the Philippines. It also features a Spotlight topic every quarter that explores interesting FMCG movements and trends to watch out for.
Economic Situation – The Philippine economy, together with total household final consumption expenditure, continues to contract. 2020 shows much weaker performance versus previous years.
FMCG – FMCG also contracts in 2020 ending -7.5% vs YA. Many regions and SECs were impacted; however, some remain resilient such as SLUZ and the upper income SECs.
Categories – Filipino homes prioritizes Food in 2020. Among the top 10* categories, instant noodles and family/adult milk are best performing categories. After recovery in Q3, the Non-Food sector slows down for Q4.
Spotlight – Christmas is normally a time when FMCG spend increases; however, for 2020, it is a time to save for many Filipino homes. Only the upper income manages to celebrate as before, while lower income groups see lighter celebration vs YA.
