FMCG Monitor: FY 2019

During the last quarter of 2019, Philippine economy grew with higher increase in household expenditure as price regulations took place. However, the improved economic situation did not completely translate in FMCG as performance of food remained steady. In addition, it is the upper and mid income homes who displayed unvarying spend in FMCG. Channel-wise, the stable sales are observed in both modern and traditional trade.

After the final quarter of 2019 was the unexpected eruption of Taal Volcano located in a province of South Luzon region. The effect of the eruption was seen in sustained double-digit growth of beverage in the region. This may imply the households prioritized purchase, that is, putting water as top of mind at the expense of the personal and household care items.
