Purchasing Confidence: Q3 2019

Purchasing Confidence: Q3 2019

What keeps Purchasing Confidence of Filipino homes from improving?

Purchasing Confidence is a quarterly report that gives you an indication on the degree of optimism Filipino Urban households are expressing. This is done by looking at their attitude regarding current and future economic situation and their real behaviours in FMCG spending.

Specifically, this takes into account three components:

  • Purchasing Capability- How do Filipino consumers perceive the prices changes, their financial situation for the time being as well as for the next 12 months?
  • Willingness to Buy- Are Filipino shoppers willing to spend money to make their life easier, to spend freely when buying grocery, to make major purchase?
  • Real Purchase - What is their real purchase behaviour?

In Q3 2019, we see the tapering trend of Purchasing Confidence among Filipino Urban households – an index of -9 from -6 in the previous quarter, and -3 in the same period of last year.

Athough Filipinos in urban locale perceived a better financial situation, moderate price increases are expected in the coming year. This affected their willingness to buy goods and resulted in decreased actual spend.

Thus, Purchasing Confidence remains on a downtrend with Filipinos tightening purchases as they become less willing to buy FMCG.
